On May 28, future plans for AITO’s new vehicle model M7 were revealed. M7 will be launched at end of June 2022, with deliveries starting in late July, according to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Intelligent Vehicle Solutions BU who spoke at an auto show in Shenzhen.

AITO, an electric vehicle maker jointly founded by Huawei and Chongqing Sokon’s brand Seres, has previously released its first car model Wenjie M5 in 2021. It has also been announced that an all-electric version of M5 will be launched in September this year. Both M5 and M7 are equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit.

AITO’s M7 is positioned as a luxury smart six-seater SUV, with an “experience surpassing that of million-yuan luxury large SUVs, and MPVs,” per Yu.

In their collaboration, Huawei’s role is to help carmakers in terms of product styling, interior and exterior design, and brand marketing, while Seres’ role is to develop and manufacture the vehicles, as well as realize industrial production.

The partnership puts Huawei under the spotlight, more so than Seres or AITO itself. The AITO Wenjie M5 was introduced at Huawei’s new product release conference in December 2021, setting a precedent for suppliers to release the entire vehicle product instead of the brand. Deliveries of the M5 model started in March 2022, with daily orders now exceeding 1,000 units. It also stormed onto the new energy SUV car sales chart, ranking eighth, according to data released by China Passenger Car Association.
